About Tégō Shade

Shade, treated as architecture.

Tégō Shade is a Canadian, founder-run company. Since 2021 we've brought some of the world's finest umbrellas and custom shade sails to homes, cottages and hospitality spaces across the country, chosen the way an architect would choose them: for how they look, how they're made, and how they'll hold up for years.

How it started

Tégō Shade started with a phone call from my father.

He has spent decades as a manufacturer's representative for architectural products, so he knows good design and honest construction when he sees them. In 2021 he called me with an idea: Shadowspec, the New Zealand umbrella maker, needed a dealer in Canada. Did I want to do it?

I said yes, and Tégō Shade was born. My father helped me get it off the ground, and he's still the first person I call for advice.

Today I run Tégō Shade day to day. When you send us a message, I'm the one who answers. I confirm the details of every order and stay on it until your shade is up and working. We've since added Umbrosa and custom shade sails, but the test for anything we sell hasn't changed: it has to look right in a well-designed space, and it has to be made to last.

We carry a short list on purpose. Every product earns its place on design, on how it's made, and on how it holds up through Canadian seasons.

Designed and hand-built in New Zealand

Shadowspec

Engineered shade with a clean, minimal profile. Large cantilever canopies lift with gas assistance and rotate a full 360°, so they move with one hand.

Designed and made in Belgium

Umbrosa

Sculptural parasols created with leading European designers, including Monica Armani's new Aurelis. Shade as a design piece in its own right.

Made to measure

Custom shade sails

Tensioned sails cut for each space, for rooftops, courtyards and larger areas that a single umbrella can't cover.

New Zealand and Belgium are both free-trade partners of Canada, so these umbrellas come in duty-free. Your money pays for the umbrella, not for tariffs.

TégōLatin: I cover, I protect

We chose the name because it's the whole job in one word. To cover your space with shade worthy of it, and to protect your investment by looking after you long after the sale.
